Numberjacks: A Review

Airing back in 2006, Numberjacks was a British show where tiny sentient numbers go out and stop villains from causing math related problems.

This show is actually really good and I'm here to explain why.

First Reason: The characters.

The characters in this show actually do have personalities. For example, Three is always wanting to go out on adventures and get's stroppy when not picked and I personally think that's sweet. Also, Six is brave and so is more committed to saving the day which, yes is generic but sometimes you need generic personalities to the show some kind of balance.

Second Reason: The villains.

While the villains are cool and quirky, they're also the source of childhood trauma like the Shape Japer (brrrrr, even thinking about th…

"Squeezing In": A School Of Roars review

Hi, this is something new I want to try out. Tell me if you like this format that I'm attempting today and if you want to see more of it in the future. Anyway, this is probably my least favourite episode of this otherwise brilliant show, for feeling like one of the most by-the-books-generic torture episodes; this one being for Yumble. But why did this one feel like such a let-down? Let's find out.

  • 1 #1: The Plot
  • 2 #2: The Characters
  • 3 #3: The Humour
  • 4 The Conclusion

This is the biggest problem with the episode. It uses the typical three-strikes-formula, and it feels like it could've had some real potential. Mrs Twirlyhorn, the school head, is subbing in for Ms Grizzlesniff, who's out on holiday. She's organised a go-kart race where the monsters pic…

The year CBeebies launched, and it was a perfect launch year. Nothing really to say, except, a brilliant start, with shows like Teletubbies, The Story Makers, The Shiny Show, Tweenies, Playdays & Fimbles.

Following the great launch, 2003 was another great year for CBeebies, with the start of the Bedtime Hour, Something Special & The Koala Brothers.

Another brilliant year. The premieres of Big Cook, Little Cook, Boogie Beebies, The Roly Mo Show, Little Red Tractor and this was also when CBeebies began rerunning the CITV classic Tots TV. Nuff Said really

Jargonaise Rant

Jargonaise? What!? No! More like Craponaise! Oh no, this character sucks! I even wish she was not there! I used to then, but now I DON'T. Her voice is more annoying than a parrot squawking and a pig squealing! If I've ever asked to her what's 1 + 1, she would say '3'. That's stupidly silly! She even is the worst and most feminine character I've ever met. SHE IS EVEN PINK, WHICH IS A COLOR I HATE. If she were real, I'd infect her with pesticide! She flies the worst, literally. Could a person even fly with such stupid feathers on his (or her) head like a darn helicopter!? Well, no! She's a girlish girl! And a harbinger of headache! This is true because I am a believer of 2FromBFB. Do you know who loves Jargonaise? Blake Ashton, he really lik…

Help your child set a goal and work towards achieving it!

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Stickers or Crayons

  1. With your child, talk about a goal that she is working towards such as potty training, sleeping in her own bed, or giving up a pacifier.
  2. Help her achieve the goal by giving her a visual way to track her progress. Create an “I can” statement about the goal and write it on a large piece of paper. For instance, “I can sleep in my own bed.
  3. Below the “I can” statement, draw three circles and tell your child that every time she sleeps in her own bed for the entire night, she can color in one of the circles. Encourage your child to work towards her goal with positive comments such as, "You are working so hard to reach your goal," or "Look how close you are to you…

Fake News Article about CBeebies being scary for Kids

OK, I don't know what I was thinking when I came up with this...

PARENTS FIND CBeebies FRIGHTENING FOR KIDS!

By Kasia Haddad

8/28/2008

Recent members of the S.N.U.H. Parents’ group have been picketing outside the BBC Television Centre in London, after having sent several complaint letters to the English pubcaster BBC (British Broadcasting Cooperation), reporting that their flagship pre-school channel, CBeebies, contains programmes that has been deemed too scary for their young children.

The protest began earlier this year, but the actions began to cumulate as early as 2006.

“I’m not letting my son dd1 watch CBeebies anymore,” Mrs. Merseyside, a Sheffield-based 48-year old mum of three, reported, “not since Teletubbies and In the Night Garden te…

How to create your own modern DIY Sesame Street

By Madeline Fretz

One of the truths of being a parent of small children in the 21st century is you’re constantly looking for the touchstones for what you loved as a child. For many of us, that obviously means Sesame Street  (which I actually hate myself, but IRYO). But, other than just having your kids watch Episodes before Elmo , or singing all the most beloved songs ("Rubber Duckie", "C is for Cookie", "I love Trash"), Of course It's still running today, how can you construct a next gen version of what Joan Ganz Cooney wanted children’s entertainment to be?

The reality is, the landscape of kids’ entertainment in 2019 is a far cry from what Ganz would have wanted. That’s not necessarily an inditement of quality of kids’ shows, it’s more of a c…

R.I.P Teletubbies (1997-2019)

Dear friends, today is the day the kids of the late 90's and early 2000's cry. But they cry, not for the passing of one show, but for the death of the memories the show created. The memories that they made and kept with them to this day, for it was Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po that made us who joined them on their adventures who we are today.

How I agonize over how to thank the Fab Four for them. Perhaps, with “Teletubbies Tubby Sunshine Toast” from CBeebies Diner, Or perhaps, a musical performance for them. But all that was dashed, by the money making behemoth that BBC has become. Some of those poor, non-understanding individuals at Darrell McQueen and DHX Media, who think that the best way to give TTs a "reboot" is to make a movie…

PATTERN PLAY

Find out what comes next!

  • simple objects:
    blocks
    silverware
    coins

Sorting objects and arranging them into patterns helps your child build basic math skills. Try these simple fun activities to help your child understand, identify, and create patterns.

1. Go on a Pattern Hunt: Look for repeating patterns on clothes, rugs, wallpaper, bathroom tiles, and in books and magazines. Talk about each pattern and help your child identify the rule that organizes it. For example, you might say: Look at the square tiles in our bathroom: white, pink, pink, pink; white, pink, pink, pink.

2. Make a Pattern: Using simple objects like those suggested above, create patterns with your child. Chant the pattern as you point to each item in line: fork, spoon;…

Children's television programmes increasingly land Big Music Names

| by Cerrie Burnell

The worst-kept secret about children's television is that it is also one of the best scenes for music.

Forget MTV's Countdown of the Hottest Bands Since Yesterday or VH1's Best of Whatever We Haven't Covered in Our Other Lists. Gimme the Broadracers' theme for "ZingZillas" or the Rockettes' Theme for "Dora the Explorer" or even They Might Be Giants' theme for "Mickey Mouse."

Children's shows theme songs are among the coolest tunes out there right now, running a musical gamut from street funk (TLC's "The Magic School Bus") to soulful R&B (Nickelodeon's "As Told By Ginger") to children's music (CITV's "The Wiggles"). And most of them are written and performed by artists famous for their adult music, such as Dr. John ("Curiou…

Drawing from programs from their childhood like NBC's Awesome Awesome, Sesame Street, That Electric Company, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Sid and Marty Kroft, Soul Train and American Bandstand, creators Maria Timotheou and William Vanderpuye (who worked together as teens on skateboarding videos) combine classic TV entertainment with an original, quirky style. Unlike its dance show predecessors, Yo Awesome Awesome takes advantage of its home on NBeebies to create a diverse TV world that does not have to focus on a single demographic. CBeebies Power Outage

I remember the day like yesterday, I am arguably CBeebies' biggest fan, being it one of my main obsessions. Today at 2:10 I was like "You know, I think I'll watch CBeebies!" So I went to my Mom's room.

The TV turned on. The 2002 Dance Ident played with the Giggling Tommy music as usual. Then Sid appeared. And he said, "Hi, I'm, "Sidney" and was about to say something. But he couldn't finish what he was saying because the TV soon turned off by itself. An unknown voice said "Sorry, we have a major breakdown. Spot on your spotlight at bbc.co.uk/cbeebies, and enter your special code a surprise. Remember, ask your parents before going online."

Until then, accompanied by a lullaby, a caption appeared reading: "Whoop! We have a problem. We'll get b…

My 4 Favourite Shows

Hello, I'm Sarah-Jane and here are my 4 favourite Telly programmes.

  • 1 4. The Wiggles
  • 2 3. Zoom
  • 3 2. Baby Einstein
  • 4 1. Yo Gabba Gabba!

The Wiggles are an Australian children’s music group that have been performing and recording music since 1991. The band promotes literacy, numeracy and kin-aesthetic fun and the characters are quirky and amiable. The band promotes kids to be age-appropriately silly and move their bodies to the rhythm of the catchy songs.

Have you ever wanted to send ideas on TV? Well, in ZOOM, that's exactly what they do! 7 hipsters take the time to be with one child. They address the child directly and personally. Into this relationship are woven the arts and crafts, cooking, science and technology, and games sent in by viewers. ZO…

KOOKY COOKING

Draw up some unique dishes

Materials

Directions Help your children dictate their own versions of real recipes.

  1. Write a recipe: Help your children find pictures of food in cookbooks and food magazines. Ask them to tell you how to make the food. Write down their instructions. You may need to ask questions, like: What ingredients do you need? How long do you cook it? Encourage children to use specific words to describe color, size, shape, texture, and taste. (The recipes can be hilarious, so try to keep a straight face!)

Directions Explore the characteristics of rain with your children.

  2. Role-play: Next, pretend to get ready to go out in the rain: pull on your boots, put on your raincoat, zip it up, and tie the hood. Pretend to go outside. Stretch out your hands and feel the rain. Open your mouth and catch the rain. Splash in the puddles.
  3. Rhyme: Teach the children a rain song or poem. Use a rain stick or other instruments to create background music.
